Oxalyl chloride is also called oxalyl chloride, and its English names are Ethanedioyl chloride and Oxalyl chloride. Colorless smoky liquid with pungent odor. The melting point is -12°C, the boiling point is 63-64°C, and the relative density is 1.49. The refractive index is 1.4290. It is soluble in ether, benzene, chloroform, and can be decomposed violently in contact with water and alcohol.
The production process of oxalyl chloride: (1) It is obtained by directly reacting oxalic acid and phosphorus pentachloride as raw materials at room temperature; (2) It is obtained by reacting oxalic acid with phosgene (phosgene).
Uses of oxalyl chloride: used as a raw material for organic synthesis, which can replace phosgene and used in pesticides, medicines and dyes; also used as a military poisonous gas.
Remarks: When heated to 600℃, it will decompose and emit carbon monoxide. It is chemically active and can react with amines, sulfhydryl groups, alcohols, imines, acids, etc. It is lacrimal and can cause inflammation of the skin, mucous membranes, and eyes.
